    Default What could have happened......

So I have an EBRO, that I bought off the classifieds here a while back, which I love! it's in my normal rotation of about 6 to 7 razors and probably has about 8-10 shaves AT MOST on it so here's my issue.....

I took it out to shave the other day with it and did 30/70 (or so) on my Tony miller strop lathered went to shave and NOTHING! it's wasn't pulling or tugging but it also wasn't cutting. Took it to my arm to see what was up and again nothing no pulling, tugging OR cutting. So I put it away an used a different razor for that shave.

Today I looked at is under my 30x loupe and it looks fine but I did a few laps on my barbers hone and looked at it again (see attached picture) and again took it to my arm and NOTHING..... the last shave I did with it about 2 weeks ago was GREAT smooth with no signs of a dulling edge....SO......what are your alls thoughts on what has happened an is re-honing it the only solution??

    Thanks!!

I am probably going to catch hell for this, but there is a distinct possibility that the edge just plain fell off. OR the fellow you bought it from honed it with a layer of tape on the spine. If so, you might not be honing it properly on the barber's hone without that layer. Do the magic marker thing and swipe it on the hone a bit, recheck with the loupe. In any case, you should not be having the problem after so few shaves.
Maybe the breadboarding fairy has been to see you? Good Luck!

Its interesting you brought up the tape (Mods if this reply should be moved to a New topic please do as it is a bit ) But as i took the razor to the hone i thought to myself "Hmmmm should i use tape on this" should a razor, that was originally honed with tape" ONLY be taken to a barbers hone with the same amount of tape on it??

    thanks for the advice!!!

perhaps the edge was rolled in stropping. and perhaps it was honed with tape. if it was honed with tape before, it should be honed with tape. the alternative is resetting the bevel. this can be done on any stone given enough time, but you will want to progress from the coarsest stone you choose to use, back up to your finishing stone or barbers hone if thas what you are using.

There you go again, Ben! Nothing off topic there. Use your noggin: if it was honed with tape, the thing should be.....honed with tape! NOW I am wondering about the rolled edge myself? Really, edges don't usually just fall off!

You can have the most beautiful looking edge in the world under the loupe and the razor not might cut period. You really can't see sharp under the loupe just the physical condition of the edge.

I would say your razor needs to be honed.

I'm not one to say isn't possible but i would put $$ i didn't roll the edge, The miller strop is brand new so i have been taking extra care not to ruin it in the first week!! HAHAHAHAHA! Now i assumed as much with the tape but i figured safer/better to ask and look dumb than not ask and be screwing it up

i would agree it needs to be honed i guess it just seems weird that it would need it that quick, as stated it is possible the edge may have been rolled but i don't remember it happening so it just miffed me how/why it would need it so quickly. Unless i was while shaving which i usually save till after i've shaved and haven't killed my self!

I remember walking into a room where my wife was sewing, when I walked in she was cutting stitches with one of my razors.

Yeppers, One Christmas not to long ago mine informed me that a DD razor works great for opening those plastic bubbles that surrround everything nowdays...
I saw the entire long drawn out murder trial play out in my head, I wasn't sure I could win it, so I'm still married
