Save My Body Hair !!
Hey Guys,
i have a real bad habit when honing a razor {or knife, sword or axe for that matter} of testing the progress by shaving hair from my arms, then legs, when the arms run low. Final test is always the proper use - ie; shave for a razor, etc.
Anyhoo, what do you guys do? i'm really looking mangy to often and am searching for an alternative progress test. i hate the thumbail one with a passion. Hanging hair is a little hard as i shave my melon too.
Any alternate methods appreciated..... my OCD just doesn't let me wait all the way to the shave. Need to do some "testing" along the way.
Regards,
Adam

Been there before. The last bout of RAD I had ended with me being as bald as an olympic swimmer.
I've finally found that I don't need to shave nearly as much hair as I was doing before. I can get away with only shaving a tiny patch now, mostly avoiding the look of hone mange.

Adam, I only cut a few arm hairs at different points along the blade when I'm honing - then, obviously, the shave test to verify.
That (usually) gives me a pretty good indication of how the edge is progressing

In your dirt, stirring it up
I am too right handed and seem to use my left arm too much. I work in a shop in the summertime, wearing shorts. I pop hairs off the top of my legs right above the knee. The hair is more sparse, so I can find a hair and aim for it to give it a pop. That gives my arm time to recover. I do find I can test with my left hand on my right arm, but I must concentrate! Maybe we need some "LaNe wOOl?"

Have not found an answer to this question, yet, unless you get volunteers. Family members?

i can just imagine you looking like a patchy cat on drugs... O_o
i say... go to a salon for ... the darker people... and buy a strand of Human Hair, hair extension.
I'm pretty sure the person at the cash will be like... uhhh? I would say: " a man has needs "
pay for it and GTFO lool

I cut a few hairs here and a few hairs there, but I largely rely on my thumb pad. Teaching my thumb how to accurately feel the edge of a razor has saved lots of hone mange.

Just finished honing up a batch of 6 razors to shave ready from butterknife, which resulted in my left forearm being left pretty bare. At least I don't use any other limbs for testing these days! Sometimes I borrow my wife's hairbrush when honing-the hairs are much finer and a better sharpness test than my own arm hair. There is still no substitute for actually shaving, to really test a razor.
