Thread: Question about gssixgun Naniwa video

Hoping Glen will see this and answer, but if anyone else has the answer I would appreciate it. My question is about Glen's youtube video series on sharpening with naniwas. I note that he sets the bevel with a King 1k before going to the naniwa 1k. I was just wondering why he started with the King rather than setting the bevel with the naniwa? Thanks.

IIRC I explain it on the videos, but I will explain it again...

I usually use a dedicated bevel setter, this lets me read the razor really well before I decide on a direction for that razor, but more importantly to me is the fact that I try to never have to re-hone a customer's razor, if I set multiple razors first on all the same bevel setter, then and only then move to the system I plan on using, I basically have a "standard" starting point on all the razors I am going to hone that day.. It assures me of a solid bevel set, and allows me to move into any honing regime I decide I want to...



Using a dedicated bevel setter is not needed, it just helps me when I am honing multiple razors at one sitting...
