Washing the brush before the first use And Other Questions

Kilmeny

I question whether I have a question or not.
I haven't used my brush yet and I saw that before the first use it was advisable to wash it in warm soapy water and then rinse it with warm water and dry it. Is it okay if I mix the water with my Proraso shaving soap or do I need a soap not intended for shaving or another product for example?

Just a quick question on the subject. A shaving brush is to be used with soap. You wet the brush good the use the brush on the soap and apply that to the beard. If the brush is new and never used why go through all that. This reminds me of when I was in the military and at boot camp. It was open showers. Now our foot lockers was set up with what we needed to pass inspection. complete with a used bar of soap displayed. All this for the drill Sargant. Now the soap that we used was the same soap and when we finished taking the shower the soap was disposed of if there was any left. Now you may think that 10-20 young men were using the same soap was bad. But think . It's SOAP. Same thing with shaving soap. Or at least That's the way I look at it. Now I may be wrong. I've been wrong once or twice before:unsure:

I have a few good badger hair brushes. Maybe, I should have read up on it, but I washed them with the first shave. Use it, lather it, and when you are done, rinse and dry it upside down or sideways. Just don't stand it upright and let the moisture sit in the bulb. I find sideways on my shaving bowl (quaich) works for me.

Good morning lads. Let me ask a question that has nothing to do with the initial post, I used my Hyalin stone this morning, I applied it once the shave is over, I would like to know if I should then rinse after a few minutes or I do nothing, I just leave it on the surface of the skin? Thank you in advance and have a nice weekend.

Passed before shaving, its astringent virtues prepare the hair and facilitate the cut. Passed after shaving, it calms razor burn, tones and firms the skin and leaves a real feeling of freshness. In the event of light cut, it stops the bleeding. Its anti-bacterial properties prevent the appearance of pimples.
" Hyalin block, unlike other alum stones, it benefits from a long and complex purification process that has always been there. The 100% natural Premium potassium alum which composes it is not mixed with any chemical or synthetic products".

@RHensley looked it up and it also says about hyalin this...
Produced since 1878, Féret parfumeur’s Bloc Hyalin is renowned for its purifying properties: a natural, invisible deodorant that inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria, it also acts as an astringent, ideal for use before or after shaving. Inside the distinctive petite boite jaune (little yellow box) is a matchbox-sized slab of potassium alum, a naturally occurring form of aluminum salt harvested from mineral deposits in Panama, melted down to remove impurities, and reconstituted in the form of a block that will provide a year of soothing and freshening power.

I question whether I have a question or not.
So according to you, should I rinse after application or not?
Because I was thinking of then applying an AS, so I think it's better to leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse, right?

Thanks. There's a lot about this game I've never heard of.

Thanks everyone for the education. I too was wondering about a 'hyalin stone'. Now that we are dialed into an alum block, I have only used an alum block when I have had a weeper here or there. Always tried the alum first, styptic pencil next. That said, if I used it to close a weeper, I waited a few minutes and washed it off with a cold washcloth. No harm to leave it on it just acts as astringent. Never used alum unless razor burn or weeper. Always use witchhazel, also an astringent, prior to AS.
Just my take on it. YMMV.

My only experience with alum is with these..
The brand is called Nice Cool. I got like 6 blocks for less than 9 dollars. These things work pretty good and are 75 grams each.

I used it yesterday after a shave that started with a blade I couldn't remember how many uses it had. Needless to say I switched to another razor and blade after the first stroke. Well I had a little irritation and pulled out the alum and ran it over my wet face then waited a min and put a little spritz of witch hazel over it then waited about 30 seconds and washed my face off. Reapplied witch hazel and then a small spritz of alcohol followed by a drop of AS and didn't really get any burn.. it was pretty good..
