Thread: HE STARTED ON IT

Mudkipz started working on my Torrey today!!! It is looking SO nice and I want to shave w/it!!! I never thought I would be chomping at the bit to do this.
He has to order parts to fix one of the other ones and I am trying to talk him into throwing on a girlie soap or cream for me, but I don't think he will part with his $$ from his budget.

Send CarrieM a PM and ask her if she will send you a sample. She could probably send you a shave cream sample faster than a soap in female scents. She also has some bath soaps. She is only making these as a hobby right now and is almost able to keep up w/ orders from co-workers. She doesn't mind sending out a few samples but doesn't want it to get out of control yet.

He has been working on this thing for 2 days, and it will not take an edge. It has a bit of a smile that is making me angry. He has read the Wiki, watched videos, gone through I don't know how many treads on honing and smiles. This thing will not get sharp! As he so lovingly put it, the spine on a butter knife is sharper. He has shaved w/the other two he has been working on but this one is just not taking an edge.

Wrong hone?
I don't have a Torrey but maybe its an extremely hard sort of steel.
They need a softer hone. What does he use?

Torreys are some of the hardest steel out there, what is he using to set the bevel and refine the edge?

Oh then...
A King would be right or a Sun Tiger.
The (more expensive) Naniwas probably too.

My Torreys set up nice.

1k Ceramic
3.5k Arkansas
12k Chinese with and without slurry.

A taped spine of course.

Now I have a 6k King that I would use.

Linen and Leather after.
