Default Help for a guy trying to help his wife.

I know this is the ladies corner and is supposed to be for ladies only but I'm looking for advice from ladies to help my wife.
I have a Rolls Razor and several straight razors and my wife is starting to show some interest in using something herself.
I was wondering (Without getting to personal or detailed about it)
If any of you have used a Rolls. She isn't ready to pic up a straight right now and I was wondering if She should try it or If I should just get her a DE.
Any advice would be appreciated. And I'm hoping to get her to register here to be able to seek this sort of advice first hand.
    Thanks
    Greg

We picked up a rolls not to long ago, but I haven't tried it yet. I would say let her start with a DE, it's going to seem a bit more "natural" as you pretty much use it the same way as a cartridge razor.

    Default the Rolls

I have a beautiful Rolls razor and I've used it several times -- on my face. The truth is, it shaves beautifully, but I think for someone new to it, the rolls blade is nearly as intimidating as a straight. It's easy enough if you've used straights, you'll be used to adapting your shaving angles to whatever hairy surface you're dealing with... but a rookie, unused to that gleaming, exposed blade....I don't know, might present a problem.

Thanks for the info so now I just need to pick up a good beginners de.
Do you have any suggestions Carrie as far as what is good for ladies or do you think they are pretty much unisex. Also Iv'e seen some with comb like guards and some without, Any input there would help to.

Just off the top of my head, the Gillette super speed with the blue tip, ebay Item number:150447268166, seen here. There is also a pricey Lady Gillette with a buy it now listed here. Item number:150444360274. I don't know either of the sellers or the particular razors.

When I shaved with a DE I liked the red tip super speed. The red was the most aggressive and the blue the mildest. I've never shaved with a blue tip so I can't vouch for it first hand. This was Gillette's answer to differing preferences in razors until they developed the adjustable and gradually phased out the red, blue and IIRC black tip super speeds. The late '40s/early '50s super speeds are also very nice and mild shavers IME.

Personally I like the slim adjustables. But just about any of the DE will do, they are pretty unisex. The ladies DE's and the slim's have a bit of a longer handle that makes it a bit easier to use. But I also have a couple of superspeeds that work just as well. The one Jimmy linked to will work just fine. For blades I like the Derby's and the Red personna's the best. Feathers are way to sharp, I have cut myself just putting the DE on my legs.

I got my wife a Gillette Blue Star and she loves it. Gives her a great shave and leaves her legs feeling super smooth. Supposedly, even though I haven't tried it, a lot of guys say its a great shaver for their faces as well.

By the way, the listing for the one in the above post, is way overpriced. Even if it is a pink one which I haven't seen many of. You can easily find the light blue version for under $40.
