I find that a little odd too. I'll give you an example:
If you have a toddler, listen to
Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven". I challenge any parent to really listen to the lyrics to that song, realize that he's singing to his (now dead) 4 year old boy, and not squirt a little. I dare you.
But the difference is.... I can't listen to that song any more. It's a beautiful song, but I can NOT put myself through actually listening to it. It tears (the other other "tear") me up too much. There's no release, only pain and fear.
So, I am also baffled as to why someone would regularly want to do that on purpose. Maybe "Tears in Heaven" is just a little too personal, and a more mellow tear jerker is what we're really talking about here though...
