Default Hello and question From Duluth MN

Hello, my name is Jacob. I am from the beautiful city of Duluth MN, which is on the very tip of Lake Superior. I have not really ever shaved with a straight edge razor and am anxious to try once I get back from my deployment in Afghanastan. I was thinking about getting the Thiers Issard 7 Piece Straight Razor Set in Horn from Classicshaving.com. I was wondering if this would be a good starter set for a beginner? If any one knows about this brand I would very much appreciate some good feed back, and or another type of begginers shaving kit. Thanks and cool that I found a cool site for straight edge shaving.

Welcome to SRP. I would like to invite you to the MN meet coming up next weekend, if you could make it. You'll get some of the best answers to your questions and see and handle some cool stuff. It's about 3.5 hours from Dulute to here. See here: http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...thering-7.html

Hello and welcome. That should be a fine starter set to get you on your way. The only thing i'd suggest is to make sure the razor is shave ready. I can't remember if classic shaving does this but I'm sure someone else can chime in and let you know.

It was good to meet you in the Chat last nite! I have added you to my database of Minnesota Shavers so you will be notified of any upcoming Minnesota Razor Meets. Contact me when you get home in August and we can get together in Duluth.

First off thanks for your service. Second, Welcome to SRP. I might suggest as a first razor you get a starter razor from one of the many vendors here that sell them. The advantages are two fold, fist off they come shave ready or be sure you get one that way. That way you start with one you know is sharp. Next is with starting it is easy to make mistake stropping, shaving or honing while learning and the inexpensive starter will not be a huge loss and they make a great learning tool
