Default New guy interested in getting into straight razor shaving!

    Hey all,
I'm new and interested in getting into shaving with a straight razor and I have a couple questions. I've read that it is better to buy pre-honed from an outside source as opposed to from a brand that would require me to hone. Do the blades at classic shaving come pre-honed? Also I do want to learn how to hone my blades. What stones and blades do you suggest for someone trying to learn the ropes? Any help would be much appreciated1

As someone who learned to hone and shave at the same time, my advice is:

    . . . Don't do that!

Get a properly-honed razor and strop, and learn to shave with it. When it gets dull (that is, dull after stropping), _then_ think about honing.

PS -- there's a huge amount of honing information in the Wiki. Go and study!

Another excellent source is whippeddogstraights.com Larry Andressen (LarryAndro here on SRP) has some great restored straights in the $30-$40 range. BTW, is the Burbank in your username referencing where you're from, i.e. Burbank, CA? Curious, since I'm also in the 818.

    Welcome to your new obsession!

To answer your question, Classic Shaving offers both factory blades and ones with extra honing.

I agree, this is the best offer on the Internet for a new guy plus SRD just may be the best people you could ask for, they use straight razors and know them inside out.

BTW, look at the top menu line above, Settings, click on it and add your location ( state). That way we can inform you of future razor meets in your area.
