Hi I'm 26 and work in a public service profession, and have done so for my entire career so shaving is a everyday must, also I like to look neat and kept, However I have very sensitive skin and a thick coarse beard and love super close shaves. So through the years since I have been shaving I have tried everything from electrics to throw aways. I was shaved once in a town I work in and now I'm hooked I love how close it was and how long it last a truly superior shave. I'm just starting out here is a list of what I have please feel free to steer me to the correct way of doing things.
I have a Shea Moisture Brush from target and use pre shave oil from super cuts co bigelow shave cream and have a ceramic bowl I got from a kit in rite aide I do have a Sheffield straight that I purchased but can't seem to get it sharp enough to shave with.Any guidance would be appreciated.

A photo would be helpful, of course, but can you tell us what kind of Sheffield razor you have and what you done to try to sharpen it?

When I get off, I will take a picture and post it . I have tried to strop it on a a new piece of cinch latigo but with minor success I have watched the videos but still know I have much to learn thank you for your time and advice

Send it out to be pro honed.. Then you will have a standard for when you start honing yourself..

I'm also looking for another razor , and if I need mine to be honed I better buy one soon . There is a filarmonica 13 5/8 on eBay as well as a puma that are in "shave ready" condition but I have read it might be better to purchase one from the classifieds. Im very new to this might anyone have any suggestions for me as I stated before I have a very thick coarse beard and sensitive skin along with the fact that my hair grow very fast has always posed a problem for me. With regular razors I have to shave in the morning and I need to shave again at night if I want yo get rid of the shadow. Thank you again for the advice

Goes without saying you will need to get your technique correct but then preference will come into it also. Thick beard & sensitive skin will require an optimal combination of factors in a razor that is not common & often not easy to determine until you actually use the razor. The brands you mention are a good starting point but sometimes even a cheap vintage razor will do the job when honed properly. Do a little research & you will find some razors stamped "For Tough Beards" , "barbes tres dures" or Barbas Duras" are not wedges but hollow grinds. A little buying & selling & experimentation is all part of the experience
