Thread: Just to say hello from Ireland

Totally new here, just searched the net for info, and always bumped into this site...So I thought it'll be time to register. Thank you all for all of the info shared here with good will and for free. About my "collection": I have 2 Wade and Butchers, a Le Talisman, a Solingen Revisor, and just waiting some framebacks from France. I am not a true collector, I use all of my razors. At the moment I use a Chinese 12k stone for finishing, but looking for another hone maybe a Charnley Forest or a Llyn Melynllyn purple welsh slate, probably will disturb you all with questions soon. I'm a noob here too. My great grandfather,whom I'm named after, came over from your beautiful country when he was in his 20's. I'm not sure where from though. Hello Mike, I was a bit sloppy to write "I am from Ireland..." I currently live in Ireland, but originally from Hungary. Moved here 6 years ago, and visited a huge loads of places. Ireland is beautiful! I encourage you to visit this country!!! Weather can be harsh, but the scenes and views are excellent. Have a great day!

Ok, will pass the answers along....Here is a question: After taking a hot shower, using soap lather why do I get razorburn? I have a really sensitive area on my neck, whatever I do I have to be really careful with that spot. The strange thing is, when I use my Solingen Revisor, there is no razorburn. If I switch to Wade and Butcher or the french framebacks (Thiers-Issard, Peroux-Cognet) I immediately have problems. All razors were finished with Chinese 12K hone, after that I stropped them on linen and leather. I try to shave with the grain, read the FAQ about razorburns.....tried to use hair conditioner as well. No use. All razors passed the HHT. Now ordered a LLyn Mellynllyn stone, hope this will help to eliminate this problem. I am not really experienced, but the edge on my razors seem to bee not smooth enough. When the edge touches my stubble it just drags, kind of too crisp edge. What do ya think, will the new hone solve the problem? Or what should I do? Thanx in advance

Razor burn is USUALLY, but not always, caused by 1 of 2 things....or a combination of both.

1) Pressure
2) Angle

Each razor is different in the way it will feel. Each razor is also different in the cutting angle of the bevel. So really, what works for one razor, may not work at all for the next one, even though they may be the same maker, same size, or same grind.

Try taking it easy with the pressure, and decreasing your WTG angle a bit. See if that helps.
