    Cool Hi !

. Just wanted to say hi, and I welcome advise & suggestions!
Thats the main reason im here, to learn. As soon as poss. im headed for a shop that I found out is here in Okc. on north classen.
I've already made some rookie mistakes. Yeah I bought from e-bay
I need someone to show me how to use one and to hone one.
Id love to buy a vintage razor but figure i'll wait untill I learn a little more about what im looking for.

I've always thought using a straightrazor was cool but now I also am sick of buying disposables or blades all the time . Not getting good shaves plus filling up landfills !

If I get this down and get into it I will influence several people so I want to do it properly.

I look forward to learning all there is.

    Theo

    Welcome to SRP!

Do you have anything besides an ebay razor? You will need a good strop with a leather and linen component for daily maintenance before the shave. You can always send out the razor for a honing job and then learn how to use the razor before learning how to sharpen. The problem with concentrating on honing so much when you first start is:

    1) you need to learn how to maneuver the razor on your face before anything else.
    2) you need to learn prep, using soaps...brushes. etc.
    3) stropping is the BIGGEST problem I have seen with new guys, they usually always dull their edges on the strop from improper techniques.

Honing, imo, should be the last thing on your mind when learning to use a straight. I know it seems really cool, and it is, but shaving and stropping is the biggest "key".

I would recommend Straightrazordesigns.com for a strop or ask around here for a good starter strop. Most likely you will nick your strop the first times you're using it and I wouldn't get anything fancy because of that.
