New from Canada
Hey guys (and gals),
My name is James. I am from British Columbia in the great white north (Canada). I recently bought my first straight razor and havent used it yet... I got it off amazon for 25 bucks (which I am told I shouldn't have got). It is very sharp but not quite sharp enough to shave. It looks like a V grind but I am thinking a convex will be better. How should I go about doing this? Any good links of videos or info would help. Thanks in advanced! I appreciate the reputation of the straight razor community and am looking forward to being apart of it. I wouldn't mind ANY suggestions or hints you have.

First thing, get it professionally honed. Then pour over the tutorials on this website.

Welcome to SRP. The Canuck force is becoming stronger!
Lets see some pics of that amazon razor. I fear that we may be sending you to the classifieds. Fingers crossed for you though.
PM me if you need help with anything.

Canadians are running strong in the wet shaving community, and here at SRP. Please listen to others and get it honed by a pro. It will let you know how it should shave so that when you do tackle honing, you will understand how it should feel!
take care for now

Sorry dude. I don't think that's going to take an edge. I'd wander over to the classifieds if I were you, and take a look for a shave ready straight razor that's inside your budget. There are many there.

you can practice your honing and stropping stroke on it i guess, but ive seen better letter openers.
as was said before: 98% chance it wont take or hold a good edge.
