Welcome to the forum RazorOPS. I think it's been pretty much said in relation to your questions for now. I have nothing to add.

There's nothing at all you need to apologize for! We like a good debate around here.

Welcome to the forums!!! I may be on the southern end of the state but if there is anything I can do for you let me know. I have family upstate (originally from Madison Co.) <.< in my experience personal preference dictates a lot in this hobby. Take your time, ask a lot of questions, and most of all have fun!

Hey thanks for the offer! I think I would rather start with a 5/8 or 6/8 though.

I will add one thought. If you are on a tight budget, your razor considerations are good. As for a strop, you can pick up an Illinios 127 or 827 strop for less than $40.00 on Amazon or, possibly, some vendors' sites. They are both great stops that will server you well, particularly when you are learning. Good luck!
