I don't know about you folks, but I really enjoy the Holiday Season! Every year around this time, we see a lot of new faces not only dropping into the forum to see what this adventure is all about, but to learn it and experience what it's like to take the daily chore of shaving and make it into the pleasure that we look forward to every day.

The spirit of SRP has always been that of helping others to become successful in the art of not only straight razor shaving, but wetshaving in general. The generosity of our membership is a wonderful thing to see and it continues to be amazing. This spirit has been adopted by every wetshaving community and I truly believe that it is why we are seeing the large growth in all our communities.

So, with this in mind and hopefully not only for this Holiday Season, I am encouraging every member to reach out to a new person, regardless of forum affiliation and try to help them all you can. It doesn't matter whether you are able to meet someone in person, help them over the phone or on Skype or just in exchanging emails, the mission should you choose to accept it, is simply to try and share the information you have learned with someone else who will in turn return the favor to another new person.

Wetshaving is a learned art and there is so much information to be exchanged. There is shaving and razors and stropping and honing and brushes and soaps and restoration and on and on. We are all drawn to different aspects of this sport and we all have so many things to share that have worked well for us individually.

Happy Holidays and Please "Adopt A Wetshaver" if you can!

I couldn't agree with Lynn more.

'Tis the season for giving. And what could be more valuable than sharing the wet-shaving wisdom that we here at SRP have acquired personally and through the SRP forums?

Happy holidays to all--and may all of your shaves be smooth, close and comfortable.

Yes, well I haven't got a son of my own, just daughters, so I'm in need of adopting someone...

    Hello folks.

I have been using a straight razor for many years. However, in all of these years, I am not satisfied with my sharpening methods. Would someone tell me about how to strop and hone? The fact that I get good shaves proves I am doing something right. However, once in a while I get some mediocre shaves, and this is the reason for my post.

    Thank you for your advice!

    Lynn,

This is great advice. My two son's are getting the full court press to move them into the DE wet-shaving experience. They are getting matching razors, soaps, creams, BBB, stands, bowls and more. These young bucks are sick of paying so much for a Mach level Gillette shave and are ready to embrace the economic and shaving benefits of our passion. In time they may even consider a SR.

Good Advice for all are members this Holiday Season.

Funny you posted this. I already have my brother in law in mind. He is debating on a DE or a straight blade. If santa wife clause comes through with a new latigo for me for christmas I'm planning on letting him borrow my Dovo best quality and Dovo strop for as long as he needs. I wish I could help out more people but I don't hone nor do I have a lot of razors or strops to let them borrow lol.

Too bad there isn't come kind of yearly christmas lease program that could be set up for new comers that are on the fence about it. Newb pays for shipping there and back and they get a razor and a strop for the month of december. Obviously they wouldn't be mint but they would do the job.

Awesome idea & loads of fun.
Supervised a friend's first straight shave last week. I defy anyone to do that without pulling faces themselves .

I could definitely use some adoption! I'm your typical wetshaver with Barbasol and Gillette Mach 3's and sometimes Fusions. I've been playing around with a Tweezerman brush and C. O. Bigelow's shaving cream for about 3 weeks now and have tossed the Barbasol in the trash! I'm loving the results, and after the Christmas season, should have some funds set aside for purchasing a safety or straight razor. I'm needing advice on how to use both! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm planning on an adoptee as I'm getting a good friend of mine a mug, brush, and cream for Christmas. Hopefully we'll have another recruit soon!

My work mate knows all about my new found hobby of straight razor shaving that I have taken up this year and he has also followed me around from antique shop to antique shop during our breaks as I look for another blade.

He now looks forward to straight razor shaving and whipping up lather at my place when he has the opportunity as his Mach 3 cartridge is 3 months old, becoming blunt and he can’t afford to buy any more (or so he says).

I think I am going to have to organize a straight razor and make up a strop for him so he can defend for himself but I guess that’s part of the adoption process?
