Ingrown hairs, the nemesis of every wet shaver. For whichever reason, I am prone to them. Using a straight razor has almost completely cured this problem for me, but I do get the odd ingrown hair every other month (as opposed to once a week with an electric shaver).
Ingrown hairs can be quite painful, and sometimes take weeks for the inflamed area to properly heal, making shaving unpleasant.Enter Avène Dermo K. Now, I will readily admit that I quite like traditional shaving products, as witnessed by my reviews in this sub forum. But I also like my local chemist. Ingrown hair is a condition where the hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin. It may or may not be accompanied by an infection of the hair follicle (folliculitis) or "razor bumps" (pseudofolliculitis barbae), which vary in size. Was he right? Yes, he was. I do not know how the guys at Eau Thermale Avène do it, but the product works exactly like advertised:
- Aids hair exit: The keratoreducing and emollient properties of glycolic acid (3%) and urea (5%) soften the skin and facilitate the exit of hair from the skin.
- Prevents bacterial risk: Long renowned and employed for their anti-irritant properties, Copper and Zinc also prevent bacterial risk.
- Soothing: Avène thermal spring water, with a-bisabolol, soothes the skin and reduces irritation.
If you have problems with ingrown hairs, and a chemist near you carries the product, you might want to give it a try. At about €15 for 40ml, it is quite reasonably priced.
