Oskar's Scwartz...you know what I mean Scuttle
I was just recalling last spring when I was over at Uncle Jethro’s and as I drove up he was arguing with his next door neighbor Portofoy Johnson about their two mules. Jethro was saying Ajax could plow a 10 acre field in a day and Portofoy said Hermes could do 15 acres. I told them they were both numbskulls. I said get together and buy a small tractor and you could both do it all in a day or so plus you could use it for harvesting and all kinds of other stuff. They said they would never spend thousands for a tractor. I said so you waste all this time and have to hire help and still never get done what you need. Jethro said I don’t need no help. I said yea like the time you had Festus do the plowing and he had the reins tied around his neck and Ajax spied a rattler and pulled him mile. I swear his neck is 3 inches longer now.
Sometimes you just mess around with things and try to get by when if you got what you should have in the first place when you first started you would have come out ahead of the game.
That’s the way I feel about Oskars scuttle. I thought with the shipping it was too expensive so messed around with the Georgetown scuttle when I should have gotten the Oskar scuttle to begin with.
I have the limited edition one with the funnel spout top. The scuttle is probably a good 25-30 percent larger than the Georgetown v5. The Oskar weighs in at 2 lbs and the Georgetown is 1lb 14 oz. The Georgetown has thicker walls so when you heft it, it actually feels heavier though it’s not. The Georgetown holds about 5 oz water or so and I find a ten minute shave leaves you with lukewarm lather at best and that’s with pre heating and using boiling water in the jacket. The Oskar holds a whopping 15oz of water and even a 15 minute shave with no preheating leaves you with burning hot water when you dump it out and of course the lather is still as hot as when you started your shave. As a matter of fact with the Oskar I think using boiling water makes the lather too hot .Yes the Georgetown is a looker not that the Oskar isn’t but they are both handsome in their own ways. I haven’t used the other scuttles out there so I can’t comment about them.
I find the ergonomics to be excellent and balance to be great. Lather production appears to be great though I personally use it more to keep the lather hot. The piece is all black and fit and finish appear to be great and looks like the handmade piece it is. The spout makes it very easy to fill and he includes one of his soap dishes with the scuttle.
So as they say, you’ve tried the rest now get the best. That’s how I feel about it and give it a max score in every category. It took about two weeks to arrive from Germany and is very well packaged. Yes it is expensive so you have to decide if it’s worth the extra cost to you.
