I picked up one of those Walmart specials for $3 too. It's a shame the inside of the bowl is not fully glazed or it would be nearly perfect. My fear is that I'll scuff up my brush handle on it. Guess we'll see! If it seems OK, I'm getting an extra one in case of breakage!

My current mug is a funny cappuccino mug from The Christmas Tree Shop. It's not as huge as the ivy league! Nice and wide, about the perfect shape for making lather. I suppose I should post a pic, since they are only $2 or so. It comes in B&W polka dots too, just ask SWMBO who has one.

In case you wondered what the brush looked like before the restoration with the 20mm Golden Nib Finest Badger with extra hair (50mm loft).

The old "Barbershop" mug I got as part of a set along with the razor and brush stand, was one of two victims during the clean up stage of a faucet replacement. Uh? you ask. Well, since you asked, it involved an elbow to a medicine cabinet, , which caused a jolt, which opened the door, which let a two ounce glass spray bottle full of extra-strength Ogalalla Bay Rum to start to fall, which caused me and my cat like reflexes to reach for it. Luckily, I halted my reach just as the bottle hit the handle of the mug shattering it into multiple sharp pieces. The bottle did not break, but the metal cover for the sprayer was bent up. Out went the mug in a short ceremony peppered with softly spoken curse words and a desire to drink single malt scotch. I bent the metal sleeve back to it's useful shape.
I recovered quickly, cleaned up, by-passed the scotch, and was off to the local garden shops for a self watering pot.
Well that didn't work, so I went to the largest thift store in the area, known to have lots of mugs, in search of a scuttle. What I found though, was a marble mortar, no pestle, for $2.50. Four felt pads and some melted soap later I had a rock solid vessel for whipping up my lather.

I use a big black soup mug.

.99 cents at the grocery store.

Well I'd use it if I wasn't too lazy to go find a brush.

I''m pretty sure this is just a cheap plastic replica of those mexican dishes they serve salsa in. It was less than a buck so I thought why not. The thing that attracted me was that it is a little rough on the inside. The roughness seems to really help make a great lather really quickly. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like I can make twice as much lather in this thing as I can in my old coffee cup in half the time. I highly encourage y'all to try it and let me know what you think. Here is a picture I grabbed off some random website to show you what they look like.
