Default Anyone using an apothecary shave mug?

I like their looks, but I'm wondering about the I.D. at the bottom. I generally use Mitchell's Wool Fat soap, which is pretty big, and I'd hate to get one and find that my MWF soap doesn't fit.

If anyone has one, could you give me an idea as to the I.D. at the bottom of the mug? Thanks in advance.

Could you not melt the soap puck into the bottom of the mug? I have an Old Spice mug and a Col Conk puck which was too small for the mug. Repeated 10 second bursts in the microwave melted the puck which now fits the mug.

Glycerin based soaps melt well but don't try that with a milled soap. I don't think the MWF would melt well.

    Default Apothecary Shave Mug . . .

    Hello, Wayne:

I have an apothecary shave mug and find Mitchell's Wool Fat too large for it. The soap will fit in the top portion of the mug, since that area is relatively wide, but the soap is too large for the bottom, where it should be.

In the past, when using Mitchell's Wool Fat in that mug, I have shaved the edges of the puck with a knife to reduce the size for a proper fit. The shavings then I have pressed on top of the soap in the mug. It works.

    Regards,
    Obie
