Thread: could i get some advice on ordering a dirtybird scuttle?

so i'm about to order a dirtybird any day now and i just can't fully decide on what to order..

i really can't decide between the standard size and the 1.5 ..
up until now i have always facelathered with a wee scot and only do a single pass.. so that is why i had thought of getting the smallest option.. will i have trouble keeping it warm? i've also just ordered a 2 band new forest brush with a 22mm knot.. will the smaller scuttle be able to accommodate it?

another concern of mine is the ridges on the inside of the bowl.. do the weblike ridges make that huge of a difference? i was going to skip them.. simply for ascetics.. would that be a mistake?

and finally.. i had seen someone who had a drip port in theirs.. is that something i should consider?

I have a dirty bird and if ordered again I would buy the biggest one available. Unless storage space is a problem, the scuttle could never be too big, but it can be too small. I would order the web like ridges. They were not available when I ordered mine and I think they would help making lather.

I am not sure that the ridges shape in the bowl really matter for lather.
Mine are the spiral ones and lather builds just fine.
As far as size, I'd go for the bigger 1.5, may be one day you will start do more than one pass and then the bigger size will be a plus.

I have a 1.5 with the spider web ridges and a dribble hole near the lip for trickling water into the lather. My go to brushes are primarily a 23mm Shavemac and my Semogue LE 2010, which I believe is 22mm. I think the 1.5 scuttle is just the right size for these brushes and it even accommodates a larger brush in my den...

Go for the 1.5. You won't regret having a big scuttle but may regret having one too small!

thanks a lot.. as for the dribble port.. my concern would be that it may add too much water.. is the dribble port recommended?

Do you facelather exclusively, or even most of the time, Victor? If so, then the smallest scuttle would probably work best as regards keeping your brush and lather warm. The ridges and the big scuttles are useful for building lather in the scuttle, which, pardon the pun, I never warmed up to. I have settled on the smallest Moss scuttle (which is the original size) and it works even with my largest brushes, but I facelather 99 soaps 99% of the time (why do I even buy creams?!!!)

oh.. an eye opener.. yes.. i facelather exclusively.. i plan on using the scuttle to warm my lather and start the protolather.. i fully plan on spending time on my face to really work the lather in.. which is one of my most enjoyable aspects of the wetshave.

I got the small Moss and love it.

I only place the soaped up brush in it. You would not be able to build lather in it. I bowl lather, not in the scuttle. The tight fit keeps the the brush submerged in heat.
