Thread: Keeping a warm lather

Hey guys, this a quick question for those of you out there who bowl lather but don't use as scuttle or some other electric means to keep your bowl warm.

How do you keep your lather warm in the bowl? The only way I've tried is to stopper the sink and fill it with hot water and keep my bowl in there. This is inconvenient though as I have a very very small sink and often have to wash my hands or rinse the razor off during shaving.

I'm looking for another method to try, so let me know what you guys do.

Here's what I would do:

Buy a scuttle.

my dirty bird scuttle does a great job with warm lather, but before i had it i used a mug in a bowl of hot water and that seemed to work very well, since you use a bowl to lather, maybe a bowl in a bigger bowl?

What is one of those? haha yeah I should. Just at that point where my job with the school has ended and I have yet to find a summer job. As a result I have zero extra money.

hmmm, I'll have to try the bowl within a bowl. The bowl I use is fairly large, so maybe I'll be able to find a smaller one to fit into it.

If we were cooking, that would be called a double boiler.................for melting chocolate. Among other things for cooking purposes.

I fill my lather building mug with the hottest water I can get before showering and leave it there till I'm done showering then I rinse the bowl out again in the hottest water I can....since its a very thick ceramic bowl it retains enough heat for me as long as I take time to properly heat it. it is a bit warm to the touch when I build lather, but not burning hot which I wouldnt want anyway since that would keep the lather too warm for my face.

A good way of keeping our lather bowl warm is to place it on an electrical coffee cup warmer. You should be able to get one in a store. I'm sure many are available online. I have used that method before and it works quite well.

No Electric, No Scuttle. Your not Amish, are you? Anyway, As mentioned...Bowl in a Bowl, Double Boiler method, or in the sink, like your doing. Your choices are limited.
You want to prevent Heat Conduction or Transfer as much as possible. A hot bowl on a cold counter is going to lose heat fast, so insulate it as best you can. I put those small rubber feet on the bottom of my scuttle. It keeps it off the cold counter, and helps with heat loss. You can also try to find some type of insulated vessel. Something that will hold the heat. Even something like a heating pad under your bowl would help, even if you don't plug it in....

Not Amish no, just low income student haha. I found two large bowls that fit inside each other nicely and have been using that lately. The lather could be warmer, but its better than what it was before.
