Just my opinion, but that looks like a perfectly good way of wasting $80.
If you consider spending that much, you would be WAY better off buying a scuttle.
Actually I find shaving mugs useless, takes up too much space for just holding a soap, having no real function. Again, IMO...

What Amund said!!!! go with a dirty bird scuttle. Personally I love the 1.5. Julie does great work and way cheaper then that!!!

If you want a mug, there are many choices.
An old coffee mug in the right size will do the trick.
The only one whom knows what is the best for you - are you.
    YMMV

I used a old coffe cup for years before i discovered this place and found out what fun wetshaving could be..now I have about 6 apparatusses to concoct my shave creme in... Personnally, i think it partof the fun in shaving...buy if you can pay cash and you family doesn't leave you..then write a review. If it doeshurt the wallet, the stick with the coffee cup for a while longer....

Well, it a nice decorator piece.

I'm not a big fan of mugs as I face lather. I agree a scuttle is more practical because it will keep your lather hot if you buy the right one.

Hyena, I have that pewter mug — but not the caddy. It's a masculine and attractive mug. You can either store a soap in it or make lather in it. Currently I have a puck of L'Occitane soap in it. I bought it a couple years back on an impulse. I wish I had spent the money on a scuttle instead.

While I'm new to straight shaving I've been using a DE for some time. I started off using an old soup mug and just recently, last week, retired it. I finally got around to getting a dirty bird from Julie. She is really great to deal with and the scuttle is top notch. You cant go wrong with a dirty bird 1.5.

I agree, $80 for a mug is too much. At the AOS store, the same mug is $85! I went this route, getting one of these from Classic Shaving for $12.99. Shaving Lather Mugs and Bowls

I also got one of these from SRD for creams and glycerin soaps.
Straight Razor Designs Bulldog Shaving Mug - Royal Blues - $25.99 : Straight Razor Designs

Maybe one day I'll get a scuttle...
