Thread: A New Home for My Razors

This project has been long in the making - part of it awaiting the arrival of the dado throat plate for my table saw. I finally finished it Labor Day weekend, thanks to the help of my son, LinacJr. and my good friend SandManTapp.

As you'll notice, I seem to have a problem with simple mathematics. My new shelves will accommodate 36 razors, and I seem to be a few razors shy of that. Hmm, what ever should I do about that...

The shave den

Top shelf. As you'll notice, the razors are more inclined than necessary, but I was a little too paranoid about them tipping forward and falling off the shelf.

Thanks for the compliment. Hmm, I'd have to think long and hard about that. My standard response to similar questions has been "As a veterinarian, you'll find my prices to be very reasonable, but as a ___________ (insert avocation here), you can't afford me".

That is some sweet looking storage you have there. I like the design a lot.

LinacMan, my dear friend, that is a sophisticated shave den. The blend of dark wood, speckled marble counter top, rustic faucets, and lovely straight razors creates an awfully inviting setting for the morning shave ritual. Good work.

The one without scales is a custom razor that I made at Bob Allman's earlier this year (with his help, of course). Twice, the razor developed rust. Because the rust was only on the portions of the blade covered by the scales when closed, Bob thinks it was the scales material. I removed those scales,sanded her down, and buffed her out. I'm getting ready to rescale her in African Blackwood next week, then reset the bevel & hone her up. She is carefully placed on the shelf - I don't think she's trying to take a bite out of the shelf

You're too kind, Obie. You have an open invitation to come down to Alabama and use my shave den any time. The ritual works best when strains of Yo-Yo Ma waif through the air.
