    Default Civil War Shaving Tin?

I see items like this for sale on occasion. They are routinely described as Civil War era shaving mugs.

Most internet resources state that shaving mugs were most popular from the 1870s to the 1920s. One source states that the first shaving mug patent was in 1867. Since the American Civil War was from 1861 to 1865, I’m trying to determine if items such as this truly are Civil War ear or are sellers being optimistic with their dating?

    Thoughts?

I think the civil war claim is just to attract more attention from folks interested in history or reenactment.

it would still be a cool piece to have but i agree you attract a bigger market of costomers if its realted to a war instead of just around that time period.

Whether it's Civil War or not, it's still a neat antique. You don't see them everyday.
