    Default Dry Box

    Hi gents,

I want to make dry box for my shaving equipments and wondering if anyone on this forum has ever done it before. I'm thinking maybe I can use Silica Cat Litter and pour some in a plastic box pre-drilled with holes then put it where I keep my shaving equipments. Will this work?

    Cheers,
    Sy

I have a small "glasses" case that hold all of my razors. Inside I have a couple silica packs from inside boxes when you buy shoes or leather stuff. When I get a new one, I just toss one of the old ones. I've never had a dob of rust on any of my razors.

The other thing that works superbly is a Pelican Case. You have to like the rough look though...they're pretty industrial looking.

I've never used cat litter, so I can't comment on that.

I have rather large box where I keep all my knives as well. So I thought I might as well put all that needs to be kept dry together. I tried the orange silica gel packs, but they turned green very quickly. Thought silica cat litter is the cheapest largest silica gel I can get my hands on.

I googled pelican case, they're not cheap. My rather large plastic box cost me $8.

My Pelican case came from Mountain Equipment Co-op. I think it was $35.

but yes...they vary in price and size.

I sewed up a little muslin pouch and filled it with dry rice and put it in my razor box. I change the rice out about once a month, more often if its been more humid than normal.
    Maxi and Hirlau like this.

I posted this before in another thread but if you get a cigar box it's perfect for storing razors etc. the Spanish Cedar maintain humidity etc. I just fashioned slots for the razors out of scrap pieces of thin wood like a tongue depresser thickness and after glueing them in I lined the box with black felt. I have enough room for 9 SRs and my DE. For the outside I spray painted deep red and then put a crackle medium on then painted black over the top. I then clear coated it. I think the whole project cost me 3 dollars for the felt and 2 bucks for the crackle medium and 6 bucks for the paint. So let's say 11 bucks total . Granted the look isn't for everyone but hell you can paint it or no.

No, I don't have any cats. But unless there's a cat that can open up a take away plastic box container, I think I'm pretty safe.

Tsunami, that is a very nice box. Now where can I find a cigar box... Hmm... Or maybe I should start smoking cigars.

Try your local cigar store. Usually they give them away for free.
