By the way, Nightblade, I didn't see your post about art school before I wrote my comment.

All good...we're both saying the same thing. Food should be on a plate basically. When I want it in my hands,I'll eat a sandwich.

I wish I had some photos- we've had some good meals lately. My wife found a recipe for red lentil soup that has shredded chicken and vegetables in it. I had some leftovers from that batch with homemade bread today. Good stuff. We've also been having some nice venison dishes this winter. I'm looking forward to spring wild edibles being just around the corner!

We have a local pay-what-you-can cafe that I've been wondering about. I ate there once paying full price. I guess the idea is everyone gives what they can afford so some pay less, some pay more, and it evens out. I'm curious if the cafe will stick around. The pluses are the food is good and they try to locally source ingredients. Does anyone else have experience with pay-what-you-can dining?

That's a lot of mushrooms. I normally only eat a couple of small batches each year.

Last year I didn't even go gathering.

I got a mushroom knife for Christmas that I have been patiently waiting for spring to try out.

If I knew anything about gathering morels or where to find them, I would be all over that. My brother used to bring me a 5lb bag every year. I would remove all the screens from the windows, place the corners on tomato cans, and run a fan over them for a couple days until they were dry. I'd be set for the year.

Finding morels isn't too hard. It's really just a matter of kind of knowing when to look, the types of places they will be found, then covering a lot of ground. I have two or three general spots I hit each spring where I know they will come up so I don't cover as much ground as I have in the past. On a good year I have seen them growing right on the mountain bike trails.

And then you have to beat the other people to them!
