Buddy, you are no worse off because of it. Experiences are what we live for I wish I had been more adventurous in such endeavors when I was young instead of maybe some other, lets say, less productive ventures

A couple of new additions to the "rye supply."

James E. Pepper 1776 - Good prominent rye taste and very smooth. High $20.'s a bottle.

Pikesville - Had to try this one at the recommendation of the whiskey buyer at my local spirit shop. He told me it was the best of the best. Its made in the style of pre-prohibition rye. Not a "high rye," but pretty awesome taste indeed. 110 proof. $49. a bottle and worth it.

Tonights glass will be James Pepper 1776.

It's your money. You spent it on something you enjoyed. The second-guessing you're doing actually shows the quality of the spirit: The Octomore series 'gimmick' is that they're the most heavily peated whisky out here. But that's not the defining characteristic of the thing. It's the balance! You shouldn't get a strong, medicinal alcohol burn from a really well-balanced whisky, just as Bruichladdich are more skilled whisky-wrights that to produce a whisky that's only hallmark is a peat-brick punch in the face.

You can listen to dissent and question your choices, but, you're an adult, you wanted to try something new and that's just how much it cost.

If it helps, when I used to tie one on, I'd easily spend more than that on cheap beer and wine. If you're having one drink that you're going to savour and enjoy, may as well make it a good one.

Good job. To never wonder what if...

And like so many things, some are great, memorable and worth every penny and some are not.

A little something I got going with some local lads who are also Scotch enthusiasts the last place I lived was to get together every so often and each bring a few bottles from our respective whisky collections. We'd also all chip in on a bottle or two we've been wanting to try.
It meant you had a chance both to try something new from someone else's collection and also, for all of us to try something brand new. I need to start this again, for sure.

Only conflict came in when it came time to take home the new bottle In the end we started divvying it up between us in sampler bottles.
