Thread: Mamabears Aftershave Burn.

I have used Mamabears Aftershave milk for the previous 3 or 4 shaves and when it is applied, it burns something fierce. I e-mailed her and she said it does not contain alcohol and it could be an allergic reaction. It only burns for about 5 seconds and then it is fine.

Anyone else experience this? Is it just my shave technique that is making my skin raw?

Weird... I have never reacted like that too a balm that did not contain alcohol.

I would guess one of the EO's or something doesn't agree with your skin.

Yeah, it is very strange. I have been using Burt's Bees and Nivea for the time being and I get no burn at all. It's a shame because I love the Mamabear's soap and the scent of the aftershave milk. I could just keep using it and deal with the burn....not sure if it is doing any harm.

As long as there are no adverse effects other than the 5 second burn it shouldn't be a problem. Unless those 5 seconds are really intolerable!

Yeah, it is pretty harsh, but not intolerable. Does Witch Hazel cause a sting because that is one of the ingredients in the mamabear's balm?

I really like that MB's aftershave milk is all natural. I also have the Nivea and it works well and I know people on here love it, but it contains skin irritants and parabens and I try to avoid that stuff.

I think I will continue to use the MB and embrace the burn!!!

probably your technique.. anything will burn if you remove too many skin cells and don't close your pores fully..

i myself enjoy the burn of old spice.. but if i shave extremely lightly with a fully hydrated beard and a great lather.. .then finish with a cold towel or an ice cube.. i can't feel any burn with old spice.. and that is the harshest AS i own.

HI there! I have to say, if it hurts, don't do it!!!! Seriously. There is not any point in using it any more. IT HURTS. Stop now!

From what I see, this isn't the usual "bracing" effect a/s has. It's probably something bad. Like an allergic reaction to say, witchhazel (that's a guess). But take my word for it, stop please.

From what you describe, this seems to be an allergic reaction. Mama Bear makes great products. Here, something obviously does not agree with you. I rather like the zing of an aftershave with alcohol. Since in this case the burn is from something else, I would stop using the product.

I am happy to say that I actually jumped to a premature conclusion on the aftershave. I have been using it consistently now for the last month and while there is a burn, I have grown to enjoy it. I think it was more a product of my inexperienced technique while shaving causing razor burn. Applying the aftershave to raw skin hurts, but applying it to freshly shaved skin does not.

I now own 3 mamabear's soaps, her aftershave and the Dragon's Blood cologne and I love all of them!

Hmmm, sounds like when I first tried Castile Soap to build a lather for the first pass, then I went to apply it to my skin for the second pass and Yeowww!

Maybe you will grow to like that feeling or not.
