Thread: Found this new alum

Gonna try out this new alum I found in the morning. It has its own container. I usually just leave my alum block sitting on a towel. This seems much neater. The name of the company is Razorock

that looks really cool.. i have never even used an alum.. but i am constantly hearing you guys rave about it.. does alum really make a huge difference in the outcome of your shave? i just splash with cold water and use an alcohol based aftershave.. i never really seem to cut myself to the point of needed a styptic or anything.

since i started using alum....I haven't had a day of razor burn.

i never have razor burn either.. so i'm wondering if an alum is really for me.. i get the impression it's just an added step.. i see so many shaves of the day where a member will shave.. then rinse.. then alum.. then rinse.. then apply a balm.. then a splash.. then an edt.. and even sometimes after a cologne.. to me i think i have it down with a rinse.. a dry.. and then an aftershave splash...

maybe i'm just lazy... or am i not treating my "hollywood face" to the pleasure it deserves?

my steps are

cold water rinse
alum with cold water
wash it off with aftershave splash
then aftershave lotion

Thank you for the information on Razorock alum block. I did not know of it, nor of the company. I have several different brands of alum block in my stash. I think I will try this one as well. The Razorock site also has a good shaving video.

Of course, I use alum block after every shave. Here is the routine:

Rinse the lather off with lukewarm water.
Apply alum block (after running it under cold water).
Rinse with cold water three or four minutes later.
Witch hazel.
Aftershave balm.
Aftershave.
Life is really sweet then.

I have never used alum, however, after seeing this post and the cool rozorock website, I went ahead and purchased it. The selling point was that it could be used for blemishes and as a deodorant! Now I have more space in my bathroom for soaps, creams, preshaves, asb's, etc.

....and the price was certainly right at only $5.99.

I don't know that Alum has a major effect on the overall shave routine. I use it and find it is a toner and tightens the skin and of course is a great shave test since razor burn will be accentuated once applied.

I've never found an Alum block to do anything to stop bleeding. You need a Styptic Stick for that. Its made from alum but has other ingredients in it also.

There are a few types of alum.

Ammonium alum is commonly used for deodorants & I wouldn't recommend using it on your face. Have a look. Despite the name, it does look like a deodorant, so this may be the case.

If, however, it's Potassium alum, great find!
