Thread: Some damn old Old Spice!

My wife and I went home this past weekend to Pensacola, FL. While there, I was in my little brother's room (my old room I used to share with our older brother) and found two glass containers of Old Spice, one aftershave and one cologne bottle. I was quite surprised.

I can remember the Christmas that Santa Claus brought these two treasures to my older brother and me; I was 8 (16 years ago)! I got the cologne in my stocking and my older brother got the aftershave in his (he would be shaving his peach fuzz sooner than I).

It was rather delightful timing for me to find them; never the less find them at all. I am amazed they were not broken, spilled, or thrown out. And, having recently started straight shaving as well as having a married college student's budget, any found / free shaving paraphernalia makes it all that much better. Not to mention the excitement of finding something from my childhood that I now actually have a huge desire to use... it's not just a cool glass bottle with an awesome clipper ship on it sitting on my dresser; that's about all the use it was to me then. Which is great because both bottles are about 75% full!

I just finished a fantastic evening shave and used the aftershave for the first time in 16 years... it rocked! Still has that same great Old Spice smell and left the skin on my face tight, smooth and smellin' good!

That's some damn old Old Spice!

good find. old spice was always one of my favorites ever since i was young. wish i could find it in the glass bottles still, all i can ever find is the plastic ones.

I have one of the glass bottles and it was a fairly recent purchase. I also have one of the plastic bottles...When I bought that I wasn't sure if it was the same stuff or not. As it turns out, it is. I love the glass bottl but I prefer the plastic for my travel bag. I think I will be keeping the glass bottle when it is empty though. I might even refill it with one of the little funnels you get with hip flasks.

I'm suprised that it still smelled the same after 16 years. I've had cologne that went bad after a fraction of that time. Maybe aftershave lasts longer than cologne, like whiskey & beer?

I recently wondered if they had changed their formula, as my more recent purchases do not seem to smell quite the same as I remember as a kid.

Whether or not that is true who knows. But I'd be willing to bet that the plastic bottle would change the scent. If you decant into a glass container and allow it to settle it would probably smell closer to the "original".

It does smell different in the plastic bottle compared to the glass bottle. You could be right about a formula change. When it comes time to try decanting I'll try to remember to let you know what the findings are.

I've managed to pick up a couple of bottles of Old Spice Jubilee that they released in 1977 for the Queens Silver Jubilee celebrations. It is still wonderful and fresh. A fantastic scent.

Okay, now I'm more than curious!

Since I'll never smell that scent in my lifetime, how is it different from the classic Old Spice that we all know and love?

It's very different. It's more of a clove / herb scent. It's very nice though.
