Thread: Lavender water?

Okay, I really like Manetti Roberts Rose Water for after the alum block & rinse. Is there anything like that in say lavender water? Has anyone successfully made their own and would be willing to share their essential oil supplier? I've checked the 'net and there are a ton... but I'd like any suggestion from you all who actually shave and aren't trying to sell me something.

There are several lavender waters that are available from the high end purveyors like Atkinsons (many consider this the best, including myself), Taylor's, Caldey Island and Trumper's. All lavender waters are an interpretation of lavender as none that I know of are straight lavender essential oil. So it will be a matter of taste that will determine which interpretation you will like.

I generally recommend Atkinsons as a lot of folks, when they try it, say its exactly what they were looking for, it's a very classic English Lavender splash. Some guys like the Taylor's because it has a more herbal aroma to it. The Trumper's has a Sandalwood note in it that some like. The Caldey Island is a bit musky but not overly so. It's also more of a Provencal lavender as opposed to an English lavender (yes there is a difference) and it's a touch feminine to my nose. Unless you can blend your own these are the major purveyors who you should at least consider.

All of them can be used as an aftershave if your face can tolerate lavender oil. Experimentation will tell you which one you will like and find to be the best.

Sadly it appears I will not be able to try Atkinsons' as it is discontinued; all the stores that I could find it listed had "no longer available" in the price area. I hope that you have your life supply.
I do appreciate your thoughts though and I'm looking into the Caldey Island for my next round of aquisition disorder therapy.

Atkinsons is very difficult to find. Cambridge Chemists lists it as available here:

Yes! I forgot to mention this one, which is sad because I have it. This is a sharp medicinal lavender with a musk undertone to me. I rarely use it but it also can be used as an aftershave.

John, thanks for the link to Cambridge, they seem to be the only purveyor of Atkinsons in the US. The aftershave version made by the Italian owned parent company is unobtainable in the US as far as I know. No worry though as the splash Cambridge sells can be used as an aftershave.

Thayers has a lavender witch hazel if that fits your needs.

Where would one buy lavendar buds? Perhaps the EO would be more easily procured. Anyway, here's a recipe
