Thread: any vintage aftershave users?

I was hanging out at my uncles looking at all his old barbers paraphenilia when we noticed a box full of his hair tonics. after looking at it a couple minutes I noticed two bottes of hai karate (one regular and one iced hai karate), then a couple bottles of roman brio (one aftershave and one cologne), and finaly I noticed a pair of bottles of jade east. I looked up the jade east and roman brio since I already knew they stoped making the hai karate. jade east is the only one they still make. I have thought aout looking for one perticular brand I used to like called russian leather and when he offered me the hai karate I went ahead and took it. this got me to wondering if anyone else likes vintage aftershaves.

That's funny, another member recently got his hands on a vintage bottle of Hai Karate, through e-bay IIRC. I've never smelled it, but I'm curious now.... if only it wasn't in such short supply...

I personally don't have any true vintage scents, as in bottles from the past. Of course there's always the old standbys still in production - Old Spice, English Leather, Jade East - that's about as close as I get. For me there are still many new AS's out there to try rather than scouring the earth for rare bottles that have a price to match.

I use Vintage Old Spice and vintage English Leather. To me Vintage Old Spice smells better than the new. The English Leather smells the same but I Really like the vintage English Leather AS Lotion.

after reading that I just checked ebay I had no idea the stuff was selling that high and I'm pretty sure my uncle didn't either since he probably got it when it was still in production....I'm going to have to let him know tomorrow and see if he'll take it back....I can still get the old standbys you mentioned anyway.

Gentlemen:

I was introduced to English Leather in the early 1960s and have not been without it since — except in Vietnam when I wore no aftershave. In addition to that, Pinaud's traditional Clubman has been my friend. I'm out of Pashana, although I might lay off it for a while. Old Spice, Jade East and some of the other old-timers I retired after the first bottle way back in the XIV Century.

My two olde worlde scents are Trumpers Spanish Leather and Penhaligons Endymion.

I really like both of these I must admit...!

Aqua Velva is another one that's been around forever (70+ years). It's got a permanent spot in my rotation. Wearing some today, as a matter of fact

i've been wearing old spice since i was about 5... don't think i've even been without a bottle.. other classics in my rotation are aqua velva, pinaud, pashana, and english leather.. not sure what others should belong in my rotation.

I like Old Spice and use the following:
2010 Old Spice Classic Aftershave
1968 Old Spice Aftershave
1968 Old Spice Cologne
1962 Old Spice Aftershave
1962 Old Spice Talcum Powder

The vintage aftershaves and colognes have a richer, more complex scent. I do not find any degradation in the vintage scents.

perhaps good aftershaves and colognes ages like wine?

I might have to get a new bottle of jade east to compare to the vintage one that I have.
