Thread: Pacific Natural Shaving Oil

Ladies and gentlemen:

Several times this week, while viewing shave products, I have come across Pacific Natural Shaving Oil. For some reason it intrigues me.

As a rule, I do not use pre-shave products. Pacific Natural Shaving Oil, according to the description, can be used as both pre-shave oil and shaving oil.

Does anyone know anything about this product?

I've been using it for about a week. So far so good. It is "lighter" (less viscous) than the AOS pre shave oils. I have been using it with Proraso shaving cream. I haven't tried it by itself.

I know it has sunflower oil, so it should be a fair bit lighter than the AOS stuff. Been trying to get a hold of some locally (too cheap to pay postage, yet contemplating a Nakayama...) since July w/ no luck.

Is this oil particularly slippery and difficult to remove?

I'm just thinking back to Lynn's DVD where he mentions that some pre-shave oils can hang around a bit on the hands and make handling the razor dangerous...!

It sounds like the reduced viscousity may make this oil easier to wash off the hands?

I have some of this that I ordered from SRD with my first shaving order this past christmas. I used it for the first week I was shaving and then tried a week without it. I didn't really care for it and so I tried the AOS pre-shave oil. My conclusion... I don't personally care for pre-shave oil in general. I don't feel that it really adds anything to my shave, in fact I feel like when I use shave oil I cannot get as close a shave for some reason. I also feel it is difficult to rinse from the face without a little scrubbing which may not be a big deal to some, but I have fairly sensitive skin and so the less I have to rub at my face with a cloth the better. Beyond this, I also feel the pre-shave oil leaves a residue on my brush I don't much care for.

All that being said, I know some fellas really like the shave oils, I'm just not one of them. My local Wal-Mart and CVS carry the Pacific shave oils for around 6.00-7.00 so at that price it's not like you're committing a whole lot if it turns out you don't like it.

The key to pre-shave oils is to use very little of it and rub it in good. Seems like it takes a week to 10 days for your skin to acclimate and get the best results from its use.

The biggest problem is that guys use to much and that is why their hands are oily and the results not optimum. Too much is not good with a razor in your hands.

I grow hot and cold with pre-shave products, whether oils, creams or jells. As a rule, I do not use them. Occasionally, though, since the wet shaving world continuously evolves for the individual shaver, I like giving some products a second chance, or use some I ordinarily would not.

Thus my inquiry about Pacific Natural Shaving Oil. I have never used it, but for some reason the product intrigued me. Truefitt & Hill's pre-shave oil I have used and liked it, but not enough to order it again. Same with Proraso and several others products.

I have had a tub of Taylor of Old Bond Street pre-shave jell on hand and I might just crack it open tomorrow and see what happens.

I've been at this now since Nov 09 and have only shaved a few times without preshave oil.. I bought an AOS starter kit for 25 dollars with little brush, preshave oil, shave cream and aftershave balm.. wasn't even using a straight then but.. that little kit is what got me interested when I saw the razors they had for sale... they were pricey so I started looking elsewhere and eventually found one I liked online for much less.

I guess becuase it was in this kit... I thought everybody used preshave oil! I thought preshave oil was part of the straight razor experience that you had to use... Lots of talk about beard prep and I thought preshave oil was required..

I have to say for me at this point ... with the products I'm using... I get a much more comfortable shave with the oil... lately I've been purposely trying with and wthout and I defenitely like my shave with.. Course every beard is different..

I have The Body Shop's pre shave oil in addition to the AOS... way less viscous and way less expensive... seems to work as well also.

I've used the Pacific Shave Oil off and on for over a year, and IMO, it's pretty good stuff. I have tried the shaving oil you can get from The Body Shop, and I think the Pacific stuff is superior.

Once my face is wet, I simply use about 7 drops in my hand, rub my hands together and then rub into my face. The oil isn't hard to remove from your hands. In fact, usually just rinsing my hands with warm water and drying them off removes it.

I don't use preshave oil very often, but if you do, try this stuff out. It has a nice refreshing citrus scent to it, and it doesn't make your skin super slippery like regular oil.
