Thread: A lighter touch?

I recently aquired a new Rooney 3/1 in finest and can't help to notice that it is much stiffer than my last brush. I am a face latherer and was wondering if anyone had any tips for using a brush with much more backbone than I am used to. So far I find that a much lighter touch helps. Any advice is much appreciated.

As you already figured out, a bit less pressure will help a lot. I use a Rooney Finest all the time with great results. I start my lather in a scuttle and build the lather on my face. This sort of loads the bristles with lather before it hits my face

Your brush will probably loosen up a little bit as it blooms.

The whole idea of the finest grade isn't to press so as to equal a regular silvertip in feel but to enjoy the massage you get with the finest grade. My Rooney Finest makes super lather almost instantly and personally I love the feel.

Gentlemen:

I came to this conclusion sometime ago: that everything we do in wet shaving with a straight or double edge razor requires a light touch.

For the straight razor, whether honing, stropping or shaving, the proper pressure is light pressure — the razor's weight, really. Light pressure for the double edge, too, when shaving.

The same principle of using light pressures applies to the shaving brush, no matter what kind. Keep it light and let it do what it's supposed to do.

Then there is the question of how much pressure is required to apply pre-shave, aftershave balm and aftershave lotion. Well, I tend to caress my Hollywood face.

So keep it light, please.
