Default tried hair conditioner as a pre shave.

worked out alright in my opinion. i was looking around the house for something to improve my VDH shaves and this seems to do it. provides a bit more cushion and slide than you get with VDH alone and it's cheap.

I quit buying the pricey Pre-shave stuff a couple of years ago. The hair conditioner works great, and, you're right, it is a lot cheaper.

A lot of guys swear by conditioner as a preshave, but I quit using it some time ago. Don't get me wrong, it does work, but if you have sensitive skin like I do it does not agree with my face after the fact. Between the wax in the conditioner and the other shaving products I use (combined) my face got some zits that would make a teenager blush. Just felt overly greasy or something...

Proraso pre/post seems to do the trick, at least for me, with no ill effects. And for the price I pay for it vs how long it lasts (still going strong after a few bottles of conditioner have been used up in my household) it is actually cheaper. JMHO

I have read quite a few posts on various forums about cheap pre shaves, also they seem to work for a lot of folks who try them, i use a pre shave oil, never fancied trying conditioner as the ingrediants are far from whats in a preshave oil, so my thoughts are, those ingrediants are for conditioning your hair, not for rubbing on your skin, i do think about continued use of these sort of products on your face, though if they work for you, and dont cause any skin irritations, go for it, the other cheaper option is to make your own preshave oil, quite a few instructions on the web on how to make this as well!

Maybe try a 'leave-in conditioner', they should cause less/no irritation.

I'm sure it is better than using nothing. I'll have to try that out

When I started, conditioner used to be part of my shave prep. I found it did soften the hairs more than not using it. I don't use it so much any more, as I'm trying to use better technique to get a good shave instead of overprepping.

I used to date a girl that used conditioner when she shaved her legs. I tried it once myself and MAN!! did my legs feel great!!

i have used conditioner before it it works well! what worked even better for me was sunflower oil with a few drops of an essential oil for scent. i let it sit on my face for a good 10 minutes and it definitely worked better than the conditioner. the shave was great!
