Anyone care to share some tips and tricks on building a nice lather using a soap or cream?

mix it up a bit an make an uberlather once tryed always prefered speaking for myself anyway ...do a search theres plenty a tutorials on how its done

Be careful about the amount of water you leave in the brush. You can always add more to get the consistency you like. If you add too much it becomes messy. Something I picked up along the way.

I am actually starting to like face lathering. Quick, easy, effective. I think I'd go for a scuttle next. Just mixing it up in a mug or bowl seems like an extra step. The scuttle on the other hand would be cool... and by cool I mean warm!

I've gone through the whole Uberlather, mixing creams, mixing soaps, adding glycerine and they're great fun, but take too long for me to get ready. Now I just load the brush with lots of soap from my MWF and face-lather. It's so much quicker and real effective.

No tricks here. It's just a matter of getting the soap water combination correct and that's just trial and error. Just take some time and practice. if you have a decent brush and a quality soap it won't take long. Using cream makes it even easier, almost foolproof.

Sure:

1) Watch Mantic's video.

2) Use the suggested quantities (load brush for 3 secs if using a soap and about an almonds dollop if using a cream) unless you have very hard water.

3) get the bristles of the brush wet and remove the excess before you load the brush. Soaking the brush for extended periods of time in unnecessary.

4) Use a bowl and swirl the loaded brush on the walls. Using a bowl makes it easier at the beginning but once you master it, you may want to try face lathering.

5) Add water a few drops at the time until you find the point where no more lather can be produced, called the peak.

6) Hydrate the lather after you make it.

7) Massage the face with the lather for 30" to 1'.

8) Enjoy .

9) Warm lather feels and works much better in most situations and it is also often, a tad easier to make.

10) Lathering is a skill that you would not regret to have later on. No soap, cream or combinations is a good substitute for good lathering skills.

11) I forgot to say that lathering is not a race, take your time!!! You will get much better results that way. We like traditional shaving because of its quality, not its speed.

Great tips Al!

I am glad to hear that you do not find any advantage to soaking the brush prior to building lather. I have found no difference when I soak my brush as opposed to when I wet it under the sink just prior to lathering.

3 seconds???

I know I'm questioning the "lather guy", but 3 seconds isn't going to load the brush enough for a multiple pass shave. I don't think I've even seen a lathering video where anyone loads for less than 20, and these guys are considered "pros"....

Just for the record - I'm just asking, as I do not have any lathering issues of my own...
