Thread: Hair conditioner + Barbasol

I've been using regular Suave hair conditioner for a while to soften my beard. I usually put some on at the end of the shower and leave it on while I strop. I read on here recently that stearic acid, one of the main ingredients in Barbosol, can really soften hairs. So I've started using both.

I apply the conditioner first, then rub the Barbosol on top of that. Leave it in during stropping....and viola!! Super soft hairs.

I'd be interested if other people would try this and give their impressions.

I've got a can of Barbasol under the sink and I'll give it a whirl and let you know how it goes.

This is my routine, albeit the hair conditioner is optional for me, the Barbasol while stropping and setting up is cheapest source of stearic acid out there. OK, there are a few others at Dollar Stores, but I just like the Barbasol name and the nostalgia that goes with it.

Well I gave it a whirl today and I do believe it had and effect. I'll keep trying this week as I think I need to leave it on just a few more minutes, but the shave was real close today.

I use hair conditioner on my whiskers while I'm in the shower. That seems to do the trick.

They don't call Barbasol "the beard buster" for nothing! Iused that for a while with great results.I bought a puck of VDH soap and it works just as well.I cant say that you should use one over the other,but a puck of soap in a bowl is more fun to me. I found out very recently that using soap and a bowl that i can make a much wetter lather and it works much better than a drier setup,such as barbasol out of a can. I wonder if you could try thinning your barbasol down with a touch of water? Just an idea. Soft beard is a must,but so is a nice wet lather

So are you guys sayin that Barbasol is used for preshave? I can see where the conditioner would work nicely! This is interesting. Then, do you apply other lather to shave with or do you shave with Barbasol?????
Tried to shave with it once, using a straight. Did not work.......???

well, since you found out about the hair conditioner. I will let you in on a little secret. As I've been using hair conditioner for quite some time. It's a little pricey but try the Paul Mitchell air-conditioner it says on the label that it's good for shaving and boy, they're not kidding you can shave with this stuff, all by itself. The price of it is offset by the fact that a drop the size of a dime is enough for shave it's really that good. In my humble opinion.

Yeah I only use it as a pre shave treatment. First I wash my face with warm water and Cetaphil Face Cleanser, leave my face wet and lay down a layer of Barbasol, strop my razor and heat my lather water. After that is complete I rinse my face off with more warm water and commence to face lathering my soap or cream of the day.

We are talking about using it as a pre shave not as the lather for shaving.
