    Default pre shave oil ideas.......

Today I shal start mixing my own pre shave oil. For the next month i`m going to use plain castor oil, and olive oil, starting with a 1:1 mix then a 2:1 and a 1:2 and see which works best, after that I shal be adding various essential oils, (lets be fair castor oil dosent smell that good)

Any one have any ideas as to what would be a good combination of essential oils?

I plan to start with peppermint as i think the smell would be a greak kick to the morning, as well as offering many cleansing properties.

    any other ideas?

As far as essential oils go, use what ever you like. Be aware that some essential oils can be irritating so go slowly.

The almon oil sounds like a great idea. I may try that in my next batch. cheers Ronnie.

thanks for the advice FCC, I have been looking at essential oils with certain carcateristics. such as clensing hydrating, anti-septic/bacterial/fungal.
and generally anything that is going to leave my skin in better condition than it was in before my shave.

    Lesson 1)

If your going to use a spray bottle for your oil make sure the bottle can handle the oil, and not just break. (off to the chemists some time soon to see what i can find)

all in all my first shave with the 1:1 mix went well, skin feels nicer than with the cheap off the shelf shave oil I have been using. smooother and softer.

    lets see what tomorrow brings.

I'v been using peanut oil with tea tree. Smells pretty decent and seems to do the trick.

I use Castille Soap with has the essential oils in it.

Some suggestions of EO to blend it with your own:
Eucalytus, lemon or Patchouli are some that give off a cool sent.

Have fun. Perhaps I should be making my own as well. Good Stuff!

Thanks for the good question: I'm going to follow along; I went to a herbal type store the other day with that question in mind... didn't find much direction.
They did suggest jojoba oil. I tried it and found it didn't offer much glide compared to my realshaving co. shave oil.
I've also heard really good things about Olive Oil, even as a replacement for soaps/creams. (haven't tried that one yet though).

The Oil Cleansing Method - A simple, cleansing facial massage for clear skin!

those two websites have helped me alot when understanding the use of natural oils on the skin.

Unlike most oils, jojoba oil is not a fat; it is a wax (like lanolin). It is easily absorbed so it will not leave an oily film on your skin.
