Thread: TOBS AS Lotions or Colognes?

Hi guys, I not been on for a while, but have still been shaving way! Was wondering if someone could help clear something up. I really like the scent of the few TOBS products I have tried, and would like to get some aftershave or cologne to finish off the routine. The fragances I'm looking at are Eton College and Jermyn St. I just want to know if the aftershave lotion for each is watery like a splash-on, or is it more like a balm? I know you can get them in gel form, but I would like to know how viscous (sp?) the lotion is. Also, can anyone tell me if their colognes are in splash bottles, or in a spray/EDT?

I've had a look at their website, but can't tell whats what!

Jermyn street is a lotion. I find it to be an excellent ASB. The smell is fantastic and just like the shaving cream.

I have the Mr. Taylor, St. James, and Victorian Limes aftershaves. I bought the first two because I was so impressed with the last one. They are all classic "splash" style aftershaves, with minimal skin conditioning and a fairly typical level of scent (when used judiciously, there for an hour, there subtly for a few more, and then mostly gone unless you sweat). I have not tried their balms. The aftershaves I have are certainly high quality for what they are and two of them are favorites.

Thanks Str8Shooter, so its more of a balm than a splash? I'm glad it smells as good as the cream as I know sometimes there is a bit of a difference between creams/soaps and AS/colognes.

Thanks for the reply. When you say you have the aftershaves, do you mean the aftershave lotions or the colognes? From what I can see on the website they sell AS lotions, AS gels, and Colognes - I want a splash like you describe, I just want to be clear which type that is, AS lotion or cologne. Sorry if I'm confusing things here.

I have the Shaving Shop line. You have a splash aftershave, a gel aftershave balm and a splash cologne.

The three I have are all termed "lotions" by TOBS, the ones in this picture. I can only speak for the three I have, which are all the traditional alcohol based splashes. In general, "aftershave lotion" frequently refers to liquid while balm refers to creams. I'm sure there are exceptions, though, so you might send TOBS an email to confirm. They were quick to respond to an email I sent them some time ago.

I'm not positive, but it looks like liquid to me so may be witch hazel based with alcohol removed. I would email them to confirm before spending the money. All the other ones they sell are labeled balms, creams, or gels.

They do make a balm-like gel.

Almost forgot that I also have the AS and balm in sandalwood. The balm is more like the consistancy of Vaseline. The As is a true liquid. Both smell fantastic and match the shaving cream. Hmm. Now I have to use it in my SOTD tues.
