Hi there, I don't know whether Ulrik (AKA Koraat) is a member here. With regard to how his razors perform: they are absolutely top notch and don't have to fear any comparison to vintage Solingen blades . In fact, Ulrik uses 1.2210 silver steel for his 8/8 blanks and 1.3505 ball bearing steel for his 6/8 blanks, which have been made against his specifications by one of the remaining drop-forging companies in Solingen. He grinds and heat-treats the blades himself (he comes from a goldsmith background).

And he's a true gentleman to deal with (and, in case you worry, not related or in any other way affiliated to me ).

    Cheers

He is a member. Second the quality of his blades and gentlemanly service. If you look up a thread titled "some of my latest razors". You will see some of his lovely work.

    Hi guys
    Here is my Koraat
    It's a prototype 6/8 Wedge with Blue G10 scales.
It's rapidly become my favourite razor, pushing all my other blades into early retirement.
It's a razor worthy of being passed on when I turn my toe's
    up.
    Thanks for making this Ulrik

    Cheers Paul

Curious if you guys are honing yours with or without tape? How much bigger the bevel would get on these near wedge beauts? So far used tape for my own hone which was purely to put a coti edge on not because it was lacking in any way.

    Default Koraat razors

I use what Ulrich uses. Transparent duct tape. If you email him he will give you the product number

    Hi Everybody!

first let me thank you for your posts! I am very glad to read so much positive feedback

Concerning the question about the use of tape:

I use the "outdoor extreme" cloth tape from Tesa. But I don´t see any problem to hone the razors without tape. The bevel will get bigger, that´s sure, but not in a problematic way.

    best regards,
    Ulrik

One 8/8 wedge, camel bone scales, brass wedge, schorkopf square tip. Shaves like a laser beam. This girl was in such a hurry to get home to me she made it from Austria to NJ in a week. Daddy's mighty glad to have her home. What a treat. Thank you Mr. Ulrik, lord knows I gave him a hard time. His customer service and communication was every bit as good as his craft. Did I mention she came so shavery ready I was left smoother than my 4 month old? Oh she was a medley of sharp and smooth that further description would cause nothing but injustice. A mere shame language lacks the radiance that bubbled inside me pon this beaut.

New guy here, those are beautiful pieces. About how long does it take to get one? Looks like a good birthday present.

Those scales are great. Love the classic sheffield look to the blade also.

If I ever go current production I want a koraat!

I bought this 8/8 Koraat near wedge in stabilized Birch Burl scales from Martin at Rasurpur. The razor had most of the options I had wanted, just a different spine decoration and brass washers/spacer versus nickel silver. This razor was one of the few that arrived truly shave ready. Fantastic shaver, but very, very heavy...took a few days using her straight to get used to the weight. The fit and finish are excellent, so good that I ordered a custom 8/8 Spike point full hollow blade only from Ulrik. I plan to have Alfredo make some scales for the blade out of Briarwood.
