    Smile Shumate Strop &Razors

I have my Grandfather's Shumate strop. It was bought before 1904. It is marked from Austin, TX. My first razor keen test with the hanging hair was with a Shumate. It was my first hone/strop job. That was a happy occasion. I recently received a Shumate Argonne. I understand that it is named for The Battle of the Argonne Forest in WWI ( Medal of Honor awardee Sgt.York's battle) . I suppose that would date the razor from sometimes around 1920. It is kinda neat thinking of those returning Doughboys buying new razors. Wadded inside the original box was the paper wrapper with shaving instructions and warranty. The razor has never been honed outside the factory! It will shave hair as- is! I doubt I will ever use it. It is a good companion to the old strop. Someday I shall geta camera and show them off.

I've got a nice one NOS even the box is "minty" I'll get er up here asap. She's nothing special to look at but, wow, nice shave. She sets the tone for what I expect out of an American Razor.

Hi. Here's my contribution to the SSS.

    It's a Shumate #0115, St-Louis, MO, USA.

Would love to know how old it is.

    Question Shumate Grind

Jacques, What kind of blade grind is that on your razor? Is it a Hamburg variation? It looks well engineered.

Well, now I have to go back home to take better pics of my Shumates. I'm specially proud of my Shumate made in Austin, Texas. Great to see that these great blades get the credit they deserve.

Hi. I don't know how to call it but it's the same grind as the Boker King Cutter. I think it's called "half grind".
Here's a pic for you to appreciate.
In the original post the lines you saw are reflection from something above.

Will be shaving tomorrow with it.
