yes, now you know why nobody could recommend you a good razor - you wanted the aesthetics but that affects the function. the only way is to have a massive blade so that the balance is ok.

the microtome has a carbon blade as well, so you are comparing three stainless steel scales with three very different blades in them.

and i most certainly agree with thebigspendur - there is nothing wrong with shaving with a microtome. nothing special is required because the bevel is symmetric, even though one side is not hollowed. the japanese razors are something completely different - they have asymmetric bevel, therefore for successful shave with both sides of the razor you need to use different angles.

if you want to change the scales, aluminum is a whole lot lighter so you can have much better balance on the dovo. but it will look like aluminum, not liks stainless.

I don't think the issue with the medical razor is that it can't be used to shave, certainly it can and shave very well its just that its not designed for that. Kind of like sharpening a jumbo screwdriver and getting a great shave from it.

The Dovo model 41 stainless blade has an almost legendary rep as a really super shaver.

    Thanks for the review.
Those who actually try the Bartmanns find them to be wonderful shavers!
