    Default Dovo Shavette

    This past February, I decided I'd try using a straight razor for the first time. However, I didn't want to front the cash for not only a razor, but a hone as well. With a little hunting around, I found Dovo's Shavette, a disposable-blade razor. Now that I've since acquired a Dovo Classic razor, and have been shaving with both for a few months, it's time to give a review of my first stab at straight razor shaving.

    While I think it's a good razor considering its price and low maintenance, it has a steep learning curve (from a beginner's perspective, at least.) The first few shaves gave me quite a few cuts, and although I rarely (if ever) nick myself with it now, it took me a while to perfect it. On the bright side, switching to a more forgiving razor, I have never nicked myself.

    Overall
    Great razor, as far as I'm concerned. I've been using the red sleeve, which allows one to slot half of a double edge blade into the razor. Guaranteed sharp, it spared me the trouble of stropping so I could just work on how to shave with a razor.
    The blade is unforgiving, however. If I feel any tug or drag, I've probably nicked myself already.

    Craftsmanship
    Functional. It isn't much to look at, but it's solid and has some weight to it. The blade holder is sturdy and tight, with a Dovo logo embossed on one edge. The tang and shank have ridged plastic grips, which ensure a good grip, though they don't look like much.

    Balance
    Decent. The Shavette is actually heavier than my traditional straight, however, I find myself gripping the razor a little tighter than I'd like.

    Collectibility
    I can not judge the collector's value of the blade. However, I doubt that it will ever be worth much, save for it's intrinsic value as a good shaver.

    Price
    Can't beat it. I spent $30.00 on it, and five blades are about three to five dollars, depending on where you get them. Considering that each blade is snapped in two, you're really paying for ten blades.

    I got dovo shavette to and I must say it still is one of my favourite shavers out there. Not only is it well made but with the switchable inserts (red green and black) you can fit it with any type of blade you like, from cheap DE blades to full sized dovo blades.

    I myself started out with the DE blades but nowadays I am using the full length once in the black holder. A great shaver overall for an unbeatable price!

    A++
