Fillies are the new ducks. In price, at least.

Max's posts have me jonesing for a "para barbas duras" but I already have a couple of big Fillies, and the prices have risen atrociously.

Can anyone clarify the differences in the different Fillie razors like the one mentioned, the Novodur, Doble Temple, Taurino, etc? In particular, any difference in the steel and/or grind used?

yeah. I asked this question once, and didn't seem to get much response. i'm interested though. I have a doble temple, novodur, no-name, and sub-cero, so I'm wondering how different the barbas duras is.

Agreed the prices are nuts these days. There seem to be a good number out there so why have prices gone up so much. Granted they are good razors but come on!

They're only paying those prices for NOS.

I'd like to agree that its nuts, but I'm also looking for a fili #12...

So, we add the Filly to the list of makers that are overpriced(Dubl Duck, Dorko).

So, in an effort to keep ahead of the curve, what razors shave most like the Filly's? I have a pretty nice Fritz Bracht 7/8 that shaves very well. I would buy another Maxard (but they are mighty hard to find).

Hi Ray, gents,

Filarmonica is made of the very best Spanish steel, but everyone already knows that.
Some models are more expensive than others because, in my opinion and not-so-vast wisdom:
- There are models that are more common, like the Doble Temple, and others that are more rare or part of a limited batch, like the Barbas Duras or the Medallon Taurino series;
- Some models are "fancier" and required more work than others. The decorated spine, the rubber in the shank and the decorated embossed scales of the Barbas Duras makes this razor more appealing than a plain Doble Temple 14;

Maybe the steel is the same in most of them (except the Sub-cero which is cryo treated), I'm not sure, I'd have to have all of them, break them and send them to a lab to check it. The shaving is great in all of them. My not-NOS Filly 14 shaves great, but will my NOS-Barbas Duras (also a 14 model) shave better? It's a tough call... But does it have to be more expensive? Well, yes if you look at my arguments above.

"Medallon Taurino" - Medallion to give lucky on the Bullfight Arena.
This razor belongs to a very rare and priceless series that Jose Monserrat Pou made mainly for the province of Cordoba, in south of Spain.
This series was composed by different moments from the bullfight of bulls.
There 6 different themes: Muleta; Rejoneo; Banderillas; Estocada; Capote; Cogida.

The COJIDA its when the Bull strikes and knock-out the bullfighter throught the air

Right now I have a Banderillas, a Rejoneo and a Capote.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this filly, I have seen some of the medallon taurino series and none seem to have the JMP signature like this one I picked up from my uncle does, just curious as to whether it is rarer than the other ones or whats up with it? also about how much would it go for? Planning on selling it.
