Thread: Can i get some feedback from you all?

Hello again everyone, I been doing straight blade shaving for a bout a month now and i LOVE it. Ive already decided that im never touching my mach 3 again unless (knock on wood) i mess up my razor or something. Which brings me to my next subject.

I bought a WM&Co razor from hlbud for my first shaver at a reasonable price. This is a square blade, and everyone suggests starting off with a round one. So ive decided to add another razor into rotation. Its 6/8 which is also suggested for newbies, and i decided to go the dovo route because everyone seems to suggest them on here.

Could you guys do me a favor and tell me if this is worth the pricetag? And if you dont think its good, or that i could get better for the same price...could you refer me to site or ad where i can get a better deal. 85-100 is really all id like to spend right now...and this is the 2nd cheapest dovo on the site. Dovos are actually quite good when they are honed well.

In my opinion that is a pretty decent deal once you include the honing that comes with it.

That is kind of a no-frills shaver which to be completly honest every time I have bought a no frills shaver I have always been very happy with it. I've rarely been happy with any frills on a razor. Thats just me though.

Personally, I never suggest dovo razors. Nothing against them, they're great razors. The reason, is that you get the best bang for your buck by buying through the classified.

All of the razors in my rotation came from this forum, mostly the classifieds.

Well the website itself says that the blade will be shipped shave ready, and they will also provide a certificate for the first honing free. Ive read the wiki and faq. Is a full hollow blade suggested for a starter straight?

You can take that for granted.

Whether full hollow or anything else you have to get used to all of them.
There's no real big difference as to which one will make it easier for you.

Yes, my first razor was through the classifieds, and believe me i have been looking. But the one razor i saw that i was interested had some issues with it. Although i realize there are alot of people who hone these blades great, this site does seem to stress the quality of their new blades...and like i said in the above post. The first hone free is very appealing to me because im not ready to start the honing process yet. Does anyone know if this site does indeed send you the razor legitimately shave ready?

Yes, this is a safe bet for a newbie. It's a forgiving blade shape, and you'll know it's been honed expertly.

Cheaper razors are availalble through the classifieds, so if you're counting your pennies, look there. But if you just want a solid workhorse razor that you can be confident was honed properly, this Dovo is a good choice.

That's Lynn & Don's site. It will be made shave ready by one of the best in the business, even if you could find it cheaper, that's worth considering.

At that price including sharpening that's amazing value IMHO.

Hollow grinds are easier to sharpen, that's why they were created during the industrial revolution. Before that only heavier grinds existed.

There's a of talk about coarse beards needing heavier grinds yes or no. If your razor is sharp it will do the job irrespective of the grind. Grind is more a personal preference.
