Thread: Rust under scales now what?

That's a good idea. I cleaned it up as best as I can.

There currently on back order. I will check back with them. I have to do a search on how to remove and replace the pin. This will be my first time attempting this.

There's a great article by Glen in the Wiki, Un-pinning and re-pinning a razor that helped me immensely.

Don't beat yourself up about this. It happens. Above all, it can be corrected. Once that is done follow the advice of the previous posts and apply some oil or Tuf-Glide in the pivot of your str8 razor to prevent it from reoccurring.

Thanks guys for helping me out with this. Classic currently has a back order of the pin set. Where else can I get them?

Non waxed dental floss is helpful in getting some of the rust and grunge out from around the pivot. A bit of metal polish such as Maas or whatever helps it along too. Not as good as unpinning and repinning but it is better than nothing.

do get some mineral oil in the area for next time.
A bit of silk or rayon ribbon from the holiday gift wrap
box can work too.

Check the other razor stores for conventional pins.

People have been ordering the small screws and nuts from microfasteners, check the stickies in the workshop-forum.

Do understand that there is might be a chance, however slight, of the scales breaking while unpinning/repinning.
