Thread: photographing Razors

Hi!
I recently came across this method of taking super macro pictures using a normal SLR camera. You reverse the lens so its "on" back to front and you can get some pretty amazing microscopic pictures with a steady hand.

Here you see a dovo prima silver steel!

PS maybe a good way of keeping track of the small pittings and rust blemishes that are normally impossible to see in shots? im using an olympus e420 with 14-42 zuiko lens that's on back to front.

Fine result! My congratulations! Zuiko lenses macro ZD35 and ZD50 will approach for this purpose even more.

Unfortunately my camera doesn't have a detachable lense. I just have to use lots of light.

Ah! hadn't seen the wiki before! Goes to show all good ideas are rarely original : )

I took the pics mainly as an experiment because my brand new dovo silver steel (carbon steel) is already starting to show speckes of what guess is rust. Despite fervent use of baby oil, post shave stroping and drying.

My NOS wapi on the other hand is doing just fine...

I'm not sure if that post is meant to imply that Dovo's rust more easily that Wapi's, or if you are asking for help with caring for your Dovo.

This used to be a great method with manual cameras. However, I've never seen a reveral ring for an autofocus camera and I can't even imagine how it would couple with the camera's electronics. I've had good luck with a closeup filter screwed on to the front of the lens. (Not as good as a dedicated macro lens, but ot $400 either!)
