Thread: Boker - TE 95 and a Red Injun #102

I snagged these two off the bay the other day... These both are staying in my collection... I have been looking for a larger Boker for awhile now and found the 6/8, the other was just a whim...

TE 95 II

It has ZERO hone wear and in ok shape, a really tiny chip in the edge should come right out when I hone it up
A 5/8 by the Boker books that actually measures the 5/8 to the hone line on the spine not to the top of the spine that measures 11/16..
I need to get it cleaned up and honed up ASAP I am really interested to compare the edges between these two..








Red Injun #102

The second is a Red Injun #102 6/8, again with almost no hone wear, it will need a bit more work and some new scales....But they are in the works now

Glen, you've been fishing in the bay! Congrats on what appears to be a nice score! They should compliment your collection nicely after you perform your magic on them.

see, this is what good buys on ebay look like, but you have to know.
unfortunately new guys most of the time jump and pay a lot more for much worse razors just because to their inexperienced eyes they look either shiner, or at least comparable to these.

Nice catch Glen. Those will shave as well as any $600 Filly or Wonderedge AFAIC. Maybe better.

Congratulations, Glen. Wish I could find a 6/8 Boker! You are gonna post the "After" pictures, right?

Here are some shots of the #102..

I used a new Black swirled color acrylic that I just received, I think the flash is picking up a ton of color... In person they look more like horn..The Red wedge was just a given, considering the name of the razor
Bi-metal Washers and Nickel-Silver Pins hold it all together..
The polishing on the metal went to a satin, as this one is mine, and I am not all that fond of mirror finishes on my personal razors, also I notice the three spots of imperfection show up way more with the macro lense, then in person LOL..
I'll shave her in the morning, but this one should be no surprise these Red Injun's are smooth as silk...

Looks great Glen. I really love silver coloured washers and pins as opposed to brass ones, satin finish is an added bonus in my opinion! Sweet Boker - I want one in 6/8 too!

This one cleaned up rather well,
BUT I am going to use this as an example here...

This is NOT an NOS razor anymore it is NOT collectible anymore as an example of a FACTORY razor...
Why??? Well let me tell you the whole story, you see these quite often on the Bay advertised as "Cleaned and Sterilized" "No Rust or Pitting" "Cleaned Inside and Out"
Now don't get me wrong these are great shavers and there is ZERO hone wear and the edge will be perfect as soon as it hits the hones.. BUT this razor is no longer "Factory" it has been restored...I popped the pins and polished it to a satin finish cleaned the scales inside and polished the outside, then re-pinned it and Voilà' a near NOS razor... But the collector value is no longer there, the shave value however has increased exponentially, especially if I listed it as "Shave Ready"....

Also note the pics here guys, now this is not a value knock here but, note these pics compared to the custom scales I built above... You always see those shots on custom razors above, the razor sitting pretty on top of something, in an half open position right???? Have you ever wondered why???
That is the proof shot...
There is a ton of info in the stupid shot, we are showing you that the scales are built tight and square Note there is nothing holding the razor open and the razor is standing alone above, to do that the scales have to be built even and the razor has to open straight and the pins are tight...
See these factory scales fail on the "EVEN" part... The razor will sit in the closed position, but are just a touch off, so when the razor is open it will tip over...
Hence the "leaning shot" I have it leaning against something, either on the scales or standing on the blade and toe... No big deal on factory scales, because we don't expect as much from them...
Anyway I hope that helps some on your E-baying and razor shopping
