    Question "Classified" Genco Expert?

Just picked this one up recently. It has the usual Genco, Geneva NY USA stamp on the front of the tang...but on the back of the tail is stamped "CLASSIFIED".

Just curious if any Genco collectors/general razor nuts had seen them (Gencos specifically) with tail stamps?

Maybe a sample/trial run from the factory?

Thanks for any replies, oh fountains of razor knowledge and professors of shaving!

This may be of no help. I got out my Genco and the stamping of Genco Razors etc are on the opposite side as yours! Mine is on the same side as your pictures #1 and #3! Mine doesn't have the name of the style of razor on the tail, only Grant on the same side as your picture #2! I was studying the blade so much, that I didn't notice the 'Classified' on the scales! Maybe it was a 'Style' of razor.

I have one that says similar and always wondered about that.

This is purely a guess but it is possible that the blade was a prototype for a new production method and made it into one of the execs or design teams private collection after the production method went into place.

Perhaps it is the other meaning of Classified as in that one was Classified "Expert" and others were Classified "Amateur" or "Professional"

Thanks Glen, another good possibility. I can tell you that it's cleaning up nice. Looks to have seen a hone before, but not much. The blade tightened up nice in the scales, and is looking pretty good after some simichrome polish. The size (6/8), super hollow grind, and blade shape look identical to my fluid steel.

If I have time to hone it this week I'll report on if it's "classified" as an expert shaver.

    Cool No Surprises

Well, had the night to myself for a change... so I skipped the dishes and honed up the new blade!

Took a little while to hone out a small patch of tarnish/goo off the tip of the toe, but after that it was smooth sailing. No surprises here, she's going on the Genco keeper shelf for sure! Posting a SOTD shortly...CLASSIFIED: sweet shaver

    Jason
