Thread: Need to ID my new Cattaraugus

I just bought my first two straights after using a DE exclusively for the past 3 years. I got a Wade & Butcher that I think dates to between 1891-1914.

The other, a Cattaraugus, I'm not so sure about. One side of the tang says Cattaraugus Cutlery Co., Little Valley, NY and the other side just says 151. Both sides do have a 6 point star type of logo next to the writing.

Any help? I do not have access to a camera this weekend unfortunately but I was hoping my description might help.

Welcome to SRP. Cattaraugus was a well respected maker of cutlery up through at least the 1950s or 60s. Started out somewhere around the turn of the century. I can't tell you anything about your particular razor other than if it is in good shape it ought to hone up to be a darn good shaver. Among pocket knife collectors Cattaraugus is a sought after and collectible brand.

Cattaraugus and sometimes CCC is a Case Bros. company loosely related to Case, Kinkolks, George Korn...

They had 2 large lines of razor types and a few smaller ones... The ones that are stamped Seneca, or have a Indian head, and the Green Lizards

The blade you have is sporting a Green Lizard number which were often stamped with either a 151 A.B, or C if it is a Green Lizard is should be pretty obvious by the original scales...

They are exceptional shavers IMHO

Mine looks just like that Green Lizard you posted except it has orange scales with a sort of faux marble look and the tang stamp is different. Mine has the word "Cutlery" spelled out fully rather than abbreviated. Also, it doesn't have a letter, just 151. I haven't measured it yet but it appears to be the same size as the one you posted, what size is that?

11/16 from top of spine to edge... The "Cutlery" changed quite a bit they were in biz from 1886-1963

I'd like to get an age on that Cattaraugus and figure out what their numbers mean. I am confused. I've seen other "Green Lizards" with different numbers and some have letters.
